Police have confirmed they are treating an attack on a 40-year-old man who was found lying in the street in the middle of Glasgow as attempted murder.
The victim was found fighting for his life shortly before 3am today.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He was later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.
Detective Sergeant Phil Kennedy said: “It’s clear from our initial enquiries that this man has been the victim of a serious assault.
“We are in the process of establishing the man’s movements and trying to find out the exact circumstances of the attack.
“We will of course be reviewing CCTV footage collected from the various cameras in the city centre to gain additional information but I’m appealing to anyone who may have been in the area last night to contact us. Please pass on any information you may have, it could prove vital in our ongoing enquiries into this violent attack.”
