ONE of Scotland’s oldest men has died at the age of 106 – just months after seeing his beloved club lift the Scottish Cup.
Sam Martinez has followed Hibs since he first arrived in Edinburgh in 1945 to aid the war effort.
Originally from Belize, the loyal Hibby became a legend in the stands and previously told how he had never lost hope his team would take home the Scottish Cup before he died.

His club famously hadn’t won the Cup since 1902.
But in May, he finally got his wish to see them lift the famous trophy. He watched Hibs triumph over Rangers from Hampden’s south stand after bagging a free ticket from big-hearted Hibs bosses.
He told the Record after the victory that the win was ‘the best day of his life’ and had been treated like a rock star by famous fans and fellow supporter’s before the game.

Sam had watched Hibs lose in no less than ten cup finals and was delighted that a last minute goal saw the Leith team end their legendary hodoo.
Sam had told the Record before the game that he hoped Hibs ‘forget about being soft and put up a damn fight’.
Hibs defender Liam Fontaine tweeted that Sam was a ‘true legend’.
