RIOT police swooped in on Edinburgh’s Lawnmarket today after reports of a man threatening to harm himself and others.
Officers were called to a property in a close just off the famous Royal Mile at around 1:50pm after receiving a report of concern for a man inside.
A man was later detained in a ‘peaceful conclusion to the incident’ at around 4pm.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that a disturbance reported at an address in the Lawnmarket earlier today came to a peaceful conclusion at around 4pm.
“A man has since been detained in relation to this matter.
“Local roads have been fully reopened and the public is thanked for their patience and cooperation.”
The area was busy with visitors enjoying the last weekend of the Edinburgh festivals.
Police dismissed reports on social media that the man had a device strapped to him as untrue.
