NOT only is the new Land Rover Discovery a great seven seater family car – Disco designers made it a real family occasion when it came to testing it.

They got seven of their children to design a new wrap for the Disco’s secret UK trials.

The new flagship car had already undergone one million miles of testing, in 20 countries but it had to undergo this one final test – in a very singular camouflage, designed by the kids of the men who created it.

Chief Product Designer Alex, Heslop, Vehicle Line Director, Nick Collins, Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern, Director of Connected Technologies, Peter Virk and Global Produc t Marketing Director, Finbar McFall all got their sons and daughters involved to make sure this was indeed the ultimate family SUV.

The kids drew their own interpretation of what the Disco’s camouflage should be – and then their dads created it.

Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern was particularly impressed with the youngsters and their designs. “They were great. I think I’ll hire them all,” he said.

In the dunes of Dubai

Together they took the Disco out to a secret testing facility and then the children climbed onboard as drivers took the car for one last hurrah.

Earlier, scientists and engineers had taken the car to some of the most testing places on the planet, subjecting it to extremes of heat and cold, water and sand to make sure that ultimately it is as safe and as versatile as it can be.

Altogether more than 35,000 tests were completed across all components and systems, on a fleet of 294 development vehicles.

Land Rover’s global engineering team tested it in sand driving in 40 degrees of heat in the dunes of Dubai, they ran it high up in the Colorado mountains and drove it in the sub-zero temperatures of Arjeplog in Sweden.

All of this was done to ensure its all terrain capability and to make sure it could wear the Discovery badge with rpide.

Full details of the new Land Rover Discovery will be revealed at 8.30pm on Wednesday September 28. It goes on sale in the UK early in 2017.
