Muay Thai kickboxing world champion Keith McLachlan was defeated in his attempt to take the WBC Champion belt.

The 37 year old from Croftfoot was in Tokyo to challenge holder Genjiuemno for the world title prize but lost after he took blows to the head on September 17.

Keith, who had been in Arizona two weeks previously watching his sons Corey and Reece compete in the sport, felt he had started well against the Japanese champion.

He said: “First round was eachy peachy. The second started much the same. I got caught with a straight right that rang my bell. He then stepped up the pressure. I should have sat on a knee and taken an eight count but didnt. There was no standing eight counts to be given so the ref stopped it.”

Keith, who runs the Griphouse Gym on Glasgow’s Possil Road, has been the UK number one for over two years and was looking for the 27th victory of his career.

He won the WBC International title at the end of March which led to him being ranked 10th in the WBC world rankings.
