PRINCESS Diana’s family car – her famous green Audi cabriolet – is up for auction next month at the country’s leading classic car show.

The Princess, usually driving herself, was often seen around London as she ferried the two young princes, Wills and Harry, around town.

It will be among a host of stunning classic cars at the NEC in Birmingham next month at a show that is a must for people who fancy seeing some amazing automobiles and enjoying a great family day out.

As well as Princess Diana’s Audi – expected to fetch between £50,000 and £60,000 – various other cars owned by royals, celebrities and politicians will be auctioned off.

They include the Queen’s Bentley Mulsanne – presented to her for her Diamond Jubilee back in 2012 and estimated to fetch up to £235,000.

Another royal car, this time with Middle-Eastern origins, will go under the hammer at the sale run by Silverstone Auctions.

It is a 1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche owned by the Qatari royal family and was delivered to the London Embassy of the State of Qatar for the personal use of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, and his family when in the UK. It is likely to fetch up to £120,000.

A chic little Fiat 500 bought by former Prime Minister David Cameron as a surprise birthday gift to his wife, Samantha, is up for sale, too. This car is expected to fetch up to £22,000.

Wheeler Dealers telly show presenter Mike Brewer will be on hand to chat to the audience and answer any questions they may have.

Other motoring celebrities will include James May, Fifth Gear presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson and former Top Gear presenter Chris Evans.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show is the biggest classic car show in Europe, and one of the biggest in the world, with 70,000 people visiting it last year.

More than 2500 cars and bikes will be on display, so the whole family will have a blast.

Every show has a theme and this year it is Heroes and Heroines. The organisers are inviting those taking part to reflect on inspirational people within motoring and who their heroes are that perhaps inspired their passion for cars.

As the event is held over Remembrance weekend, there will also be a variety of vehicles on display used in wartime.

Stories of those vehicles and the incredible people who were behind the wheel during the conflicts will be shared and celebrated, too.

Event director Daniel Nwaokolo said: “The show is the biggest club event in Europe and one of the top five for classic car shows in the world.

“The team here are passionate about the classic motoring community.”

The show takes place at the NEC in Birmingham between November 11-13.
