New homes destroyed as blaze rips through Renfrewshire building site

NEW homes were destroyed when fire tore through a building site in Renfrewshire tonight.

Three fire engines and 15 firefighters were called to the blaze on Beith Road in Johnstone just after 7pm.

Residents said the flames could be seen for miles around.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called to a fire at a two-storey timber house under construction.

“There were no casualties.

“Crews remained at the scene until after 10pm. An investigation will be carried out into the cause of the fire.”
