NSRI man single-handedly saves 5 paddlers

The commander of a sea rescue station pulled off a one-man rescue of 5 individuals throughout a fishing journey.
Darren Zimmerman was aboard his inflexible inflatable rubberduck between Simon’s City and Miller’s Level‚ south of Cape City‚ when he noticed three paddlers waving to draw his consideration early on Friday.
“Darren discovered three paddlers‚ men and women‚ on a scull boat which had semi-submerged within the water‚” the NSRI stated.
The trio advised Zimmerman that two different males have been in want of rescue about 800m away. The NSRI chief raised the alarm by radio‚ make sure that the three paddlers have been protected‚ then discovered the opposite two males being towed in the direction of shore by a second smaller paddle craft with two males on board.
“Darren rescued these two paddlers from the water … then he raced again to rescue the unique three paddlers‚ getting all 5 of them safely onto his boat‚” the NSRI stated.
“They have been all hypothermic and Darren transported them to the ocean rescue base in Simon’s City the place they have been handled for hypothermia by Cape Medical Response paramedics.”
The NSRI craft Spirit of Surfski II towed the semi-submerged scull boat to Simon’s City.
“It seems that the seven paddlers‚ two on a two-man paddle craft and 5 on a scull boat paddle craft‚ had launched for a paddle when the scull boat took on water‚” the NSRI stated.
“Three paddlers stayed with the semi-submerged craft whereas the 2-man paddle craft tried to tow two of the crew from the 5-man paddle craft to shore.”
