Troops from Pte Reid’s battalion 1 Scots, the Royal Scots Borderers – dressed in kilts – lined up in a guard of honour at Carlisle Crematorium.

The teenager, who had been decorated for previous service in Cyprus, died at County Down’s Palace Barracks on October 22.

His brother Senna Reid posted on social media: “You were the best brother anyone could ask for and a fine soldier. Sorry your life on Earth was so short.”
