Scottish film maker's harrowing videos expose how hundreds are cruelly targeted by heartless benefits chiefs

VICTIMS of heartless Tory benefits tests can now fight back through a new campaign spearheaded by a Scots film maker.

Thousands of lives have been ruined by the government’s humiliating assessments for Personal Independence Payments (PIPs), often carried out by unaccountable contractors.

The Record has campaigned for years against the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) schemes designed to strip vital income from some of the most vulnerable people in society.

The tests are carried out across the UK by private firms Atos, Maximus and Capita, while much of the Scottish work is completed by Atos contractor Salus, a branch of NHS Lanarkshire.

But victims are now making their voices heard thanks to a Glasgow based film maker – who we have agreed not to name so as not to compromise future work exposing further PIP injustices.

He has partnered with the Record to champion the rights of the disabled by filming their harrowing testimonies, then uploading them to www.stop-pip.org.

He decided to launch the site – which goes live on Monday- after seeing his own aunt left destitute.

And he hopes others will come forward to share their stories and exchange advice on how to beat an increasingly heartless system.

The director said: “The Record has constantly highlighted the adverse effects of benefit cuts on the vulnerable.

“I am proud to partner them in trying to drive this project forward to help fight back.

“What people are seeing now is just the beginning, we’re not going to stop until PIP and these horrendous tests are abolished.”
