A big-hearted Paisley schoolgirl has raised hundreds of pounds for charity after getting her waist-length hair chopped.

Brodie McRoberts had nearly 18 inches of her locks cut off for the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss.

The nine-year-old also raised £450 which will go to the Meningitis Research Foundation after the youngster was inspired by the death of a family friend from the illness.

Mum Kirsty says that Brodie was excited to get a new look and to help the good causes along the way.

She said: “She has always had really long hair and she just decided she wanted to do something for charity.

“The obvious one was the Little Princess Trust. The hair she had cut off will hopefully go towards helping another child.”

The Williamsburgh Primary School pupil was touched by the death of 21-year-old Jennifer Gray from meningitis in April this year.

Kirsty said: “She used to know Jennifer. She lived next to her friend so she used to play with her sometimes.

“As well as getting her hair cut and donating it to the Little Princess Trust, she also wanted to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation.”

Her brother Devin, 13, dad Mo McRoberts and Kirsty’s partner Graeme Jamieson are all proud of her.

“We are really proud of her. It was her idea so we are really pleased for her,” explained Kirsty.

“She has never had short hair so this is a change. She got it cut into a bob which will be a lot more manageable.

“I don’t think she was nervous really. I think she was more excited to have a big change and looking after it will be easier.

“She has had wee trims in the past but this was the biggest cut, definitely. She got it done at My Hair Guru in Paisley and they were really good with her.”

The Hawkhead youngster, who attends PACE Youth Theatre , is asking Buddies to get behind her and donate to a great cause.
