A special mass was held at Kilgraston School on Monday as part of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The service doubled up as a celebration which recognised the hard work of a former member of staff at the school, Margaret McCabe.
Former housemistress and Spanish teacher, Mrs McCabe retired in June after 28 years of dedicated service to Kilgraston. As well as teaching and housemistress commitments, she prepared girls for First Communion, Confirmation and supported the girls, staff and the whole school community.
She was welcomed back to the school where guests from the school and community saw her presented with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, sometimes called the Cross of Honour, the highest medal that can be awarded to the laity by the Pope in recognition of her services to Catholic education.
The medal was presented by Bishop Stephen Robson of the Diocese of Dunkeld.
Bishop Robson co-celebrated Mass with Monsignor Hendry, Monsignor Drysdale, Canon McInally and Fr Pletts.
The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe commemorates the apparition of Our Lady to Juan Diego in 1531 outside what is now Mexico City. It is a very important part of Advent celebrations in Mexico, and observance recognises the role in the community played by the school’s Mexican students. The service is also conducted in Spanish.
