JOHANNESBURG – Pikitup says its employees might be working day and night time to gather the refuse that’s piled up over the 5-week lengthy strike.
Staff affiliated to the South African Municipal Staff’ Union (Samwu) went on strike for the second time in current months, demanding wage disparities be resolved and there MD’s resignation.
On Sunday staff agreed to finish the unprotected strike and return to their posts.
Pikitup’s Jacky Mashapu says there might be a double-shift system to clear the backlog.
“The system will comprise of a day and night time shift to be sure that we clear the waste. This can be complemented by assets mobilised from all different entities of the town to take away the backlog by the top of the month.”
The waste administration firm says it should proceed utilizing a contracted useful resource to help with the clearing of the uncollected waste backlog by the top of this month.
