A KILLER who murdered his ex-wife by dousing her with petrol and setting her alight was stabbed in prison after a feud with a fellow convict flared into violence.

Evil Ahmed Yazdanparast, 63, was in the education centre of HMP Shotts when he was set upon by inmate Paul Ferguson.

Tension between the pair exploded when Ferguson, 27, repeatedly stabbed Yazdanparast through the right shoulder with a 15cm long piece of metal he had stashed in his trousers.

He was stopped by prison staff and Yazdanparast was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment with the weapon still sticking out of his shoulder.

Hospital staff removed the makeshift blade, treated the wound and returned him to jail later the same day.

Ferguson was put back in his cell but hours later set fire to bed linen causing damage to the floor and window.

He has appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted attacking Yazdanparast and setting fire to his cell in May.

Sheriff Daniel Kelly QC ordered him to serve four years and two months behind bars for the incidents.

Depute fiscal Paula Russell said: “Paul Ferguson walked towards Ahmed Yazdanparast and thereafter took something from the waist line of his trousers and repeatedly struck him.

“He repeatedly stabbed him on the right shoulder with a piece of metal and was thereafter taken away by prison officers.

“The piece of metal was 15.5cm long and approximately 2mm in diameter.

“It was left in situ until the complainer was taken to hospital.

“While he was there it was noted that the metal spike had lodged under the skin by five or six centimetres.”

Lorna Clark, defending, added: “There was bad feeling between him and the complainer and this escalated very quickly within the prison setting and he acted the way he did.

“He has limited recollection of setting fire to his cell later on that same day.

“He lost all prison privileges as a result of this and was removed from the mainstream prison life.”

Sheriff Kelly told Ferguson: “Any assault with a weapon is to be taken seriously and setting fire to bed linen was reckless.”

Yazdanparast is serving 19 years for the brutal murder of his former wife Ahdieh Khayatzadeh who he believed had become ‘westernised’.

The mother-of-three suffered burns to 95 per cent of her body in the attack at her hair salon in Stirling in October 2013.

As she lay dying, she told a paramedic her husband attacked her because she divorced him.

Last year he lost an appeal against his conviction after claiming his lawyers were negligent in not telling his trial he was suffering from diminished responsibility meaning he should have faced a lesser charge.

He was also ordered to pay his three children £450,000 after they sued him for the loss of their mum.
