Offshore helicopter operator CHC has lost a major North Sea contract with oil firm, Apache.

The Aberdeen-based unit of the CHC Helicopter global transport group said it has no immediate plans to make redundancies but has not ruled out doing so in the future.

CHC said the Apache North Sea contract, secured in 2010 on a five year deal worth £11 million a year with a two-year extension option, represented less than a fifth of its overall business.

Apache North Sea has decided not to renew the contract.

The 2010 deal saw CHC add a second Sikorsky S92 aircraft to its Aberdeen fleet at a cost of £14.5 million.

CHC said the contract with Apache North Sea will end in eight months and hopes to add services from new and existing clients to take up the slack from the contract loss.

Canadian-based CHC Helicopter has operations in 30 countries.
