Scott Allan is set to return to Celtic this month just halfway through his season-long loan deal with Rotherham.
Millers manager Paul Warne is to get tough with his under-performing squad who sit bottom of the Championship.
And former Hibs man Allan, signed by his old boss Alan Stubbs for Rotherham on a year-long loan in the summer, looks to be one of the first shown the door.
The 25-year-old midfielder has made just nine appearances for the Millers, the last coming as a substitute against Norwich in October just days before Stubbs was axed.

Caretaker Warne told The Star that Allan and fellow loan midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey are surplus to requirements.
Warne said: “They (Allan and Forster-Caskey) aren’t getting in the squad and I would expect something to happen.
“As is stands at the moment, they’re just not in my plans. If I bring in new signings, they’re going to be even less in my plans.”
Allan has endured a miserable time since signing for Celtic 18 months ago. He has made just eight starts for the Hoops in that time but could soon be back at Parkhead.
