A GARTCOSH thief who stole from his ex-partner will have to carry out unpaid work in the community after failing to prove he could keep out of trouble with the law.
Scott Forsyth made off with cash belonging to his male victim from Peartree Caravan Park, in Stepps, on July 15 last year.
The opportunistic 23-year-old was later reported to the police and placed under arrest.
Forsyth, of Holm Place, owned up to the shameful theft and sentence was deferred at Airdrie Sheriff Court to allow him to be of good behaviour.
During Forsyth’s reappearance in the dock last week, his defence solicitor, Rowan Myles, told the court he was under the impression his client had kept his nose clean.
But procurator fiscal Yolande Love revealed that Forsyth faced two charges from September last year – when he acted aggressively towards a 70-year-old woman – and a further matter from a month later, and had been sentenced to community payback orders on both occasions.
Mr Myles went on to disclose that his client’s relationship with the complainer “is over”.
Sheriff Frank Pieri was unimpressed by Forsyth’s additional charges during the period of deferral and said: “You clearly haven’t been of good behaviour.
“I will impose a community payback order involving 50 hours’ unpaid work, as a direct alternative to a fine.
“This will run consecutively to your current unpaid work orders and you will complete the hours within three months of your completion of the others [orders].”
Sheriff Pieri also admonished Forsyth on a breach of court bail conditions where he approached and contacted his ex-partner four days after stealing the money from him.
Forsyth admitted defying instructions by making his way back to Peartree Caravan Park and confronting the shocked man.
