A fire has ripped through a building at Balmore Road in Glasgow causing surrounding roads to be closed.
Balmore Road at Sunnylaw Street, Saracen Street and Allander Street are all shut off as well as Panmure Street in the north of the city.
Local reports in the Possilpark area suggest a scrap dealer’s premises were on fire with the flames affecting a nearby Orange hall.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said the fire at the B&M Metals scrapyard was creating a lot of smoke.
The fire broke out at 8.20pm and had soon ripped through the building, destroying the roof. Thick palls of smoke were seen, leading police to make major road closures ion the local area.
A police spokeswoman said: “The best thing local people can do is stay indoors and keep their windows closed.
“No-one was injured in the fire but the smoke was quite heavy.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said four fire engines had raced to the scene.
She added: “The fire was well underway but the building was unoccupied.”
