Storm Doris might have been on the way but it was Hurricane Hibs that hit hapless Hearts at Easter Road.
Neil Lennon gave his side an icy blast in the build-up to the Scottish Cup replay and his men responded by blowing their fierce rivals into next week to bag the holders a last-eight shootout with Ayr United.
The ridiculous UEFA television blackout meant armchair punters were forced to watch the game on some dodgy mobile phone app called Periscope. And follow the action on our live blog, of course.
But Hibs were so far out of sight in front of a 20,000-strong full house the Jambos couldn’t have caught a peak using the Hubble telescope.
Jason Cummings made it five out of six against the Gorgie men before setting up Grant Holt for a second.
Sub Andrew Shinnie lashed home a third to send Jambos fans to the exits before Esmael Goncalves grabbed a lifeline at the third attempt after his penalty and rebound was saved by Ofir Marciano.
But Hibs never looked like being blown off course against a Hearts side that looked weather beaten from the first whistle.
3 things we learned
Here we go, two-in-a-row
The Hibs fans chanted this all evening and the holders certainly meant business. Neil Lennon’s men were in no mood to relinquish their grip on the famous old silver trophy. It was a rampant display.
Cummings at ya
Cummings just loves a derby goal and that was the lethal striker’s fifth in the last six Edinburgh clashes. He still had a lot to do when he latched in to Shinnie’s pass but stroked home the opener with real aplomb as the goalscoring talisman made it 17 for the season.
Crisis for Cathro?
Hearts never really looked like ripping the Cup from Hibs grasp at any stage of this contest. The Jambos performed so abjectly at the home of their city rivals and Cathro will have some explaining to do after this one. It is the manner and nature of defeat that will hurt the Hearts fans most as many headed for the exits after the second goal.
