Body recovered from River Irvine in search for missing Kilmarnock man Alan Galbraith

Police have recovered a body from a river in Irvine.

Formal identification is yet to take place, however it is believed to be Alan Galbraith, 58, who has been missing from Kilmarnock since Sunday, 5 February. He vanished after spending the evening with his wife and friends at a friends’ house.

Officers say his body was pulled from the River Irvine, near Dreghorn Road, Irvine at around 2.20pm on Saturday (11 March).

Alan’s relatives have been informed.

Police Scotland say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson from the force said: “Around 1420 hours on Saturday 11 March 2017, police were called to a report of a man’s body found in the River Irvine, near Dreghorn Road, Irvine.

“Although formal identification has still to take place, it is believed to be 58 year-old Alan Galbraith who has been missing from Kilmarnock since Sunday 5 February 2017. His family has been informed.

“A post mortem will take place to establish the exact cause of death, however the death is not being treated as suspicious.

“A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
