Armed officers reportedly raided a flat in Birmingham last night as Britain remains tense following a terror attack in Westminster.

A large scene was cordoned off around an address on Hagley Road, a main road in the Edgbaston area of the city, for several hours at around 10.30pm.

There were reports of armed officers involved.

West Midlands Police would say only that an incident was “ongoing” and directed further inquiries to Scotland Yard.

Police remain at an address

The Met Police could not comment due to “operational reasons”.

At around 1am on Thursday, roads were reopened.

Uniformed officers remained outside a door between two businesses.

It is believed to lead to at least one flat above the row of shops.

Police activity appeared to continue through the night.

There was no immediate information to connect the incident to yesterday’s terror attack in London which left four people dead and more than 40 injured.

But the BBC Newsnight programme did claim that the Hyundai car used in the attack was rented from a branch of Enterprise in Birmingham last Thursday.

A man drove a 4×4 vehicle onto Westminster Bridge and ploughed into pedestrians before crashing into a gate near the Houses of Parliament at around 2.40pm.

He then fatally stabbed unarmed officer PC Keith Palmer, 48, before he was shot dead by armed police yards away.

The attacker has not been identified.

The Met Police are treating the incident as an act of terrorism.
