Manchester United fans want one big name star sold in the summer

Manchester United fans have delivered their verdict over which player they want flogged in the summer.

According to a survey conducted by the Manchester Evening News, half of the Red Devils supports believe Wayne Rooney should be moved on.

Rooney, 31, is no longer one of the first names on the teamsheet under Jose Mourinho and has made just 19 starts this season.

He was heavily linked with a move to the Chinese Super League last month and has been tipped for a return to boyhood club Everton.

And it seems some fans will not be sad to see him go after 13 seasons at the club, with Matteo Darmian his closest challenger with 29 per cent of the vote.

Marouane Fellaini comes in at third place on 14 per cent – despite signing a one-year contract extension earlier this year.

Eighteen players have left Manchester United on a permanent basis since Mourinho took charge and it seems fans only want a handful of outgoings this time around.

Of those surveyed, 61 per cent believe between one and three players should leave Old Trafford in the summer.
