Police in Kilmarnock have cordoned off part of the area close to Ayrshire College in Kilmarnock after a male was injured.
A police source told the Standard the incident is believed to have happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It is believed the man was assaulted.
The man – who has not yet been identified – has been taken to nearby Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.
The extent of his injuries are as of yet unknown.
A police van is blocking the entry to Balmoral Road, with cordoned tape also stopping access to the area, which sits next to a large development site.
Access from the other is also cordoned off, which means several businesses on Balmoral Road have been unable to operate this morning.
One man, who does not wish to be identified, said he should have been out on the road at 6am, with workers from the site next to him due to start at 5am.
All businesses, including Ogilvie Engineering and Campbell’s Animal Feed have been affeceted.
