People gather in West Lothian to remember those who died at the Battle of Arras

Around 80 people came together on Sunday, April 9, outside West Lothian Civic Centre to remember the fallen and injured in the World War One Battle of Arras which took place from April 9, 1917, until May 16, 1917.

The poignant service remembered the 18,000 Scots who fought and fell during the bloody WW1 battle. The welcome and opening prayer was given by the Reverend Nigel Anderson, Legion Scotland Livingston Branch Chaplain. The Legion Scotland Livingston Branch displayed their Queen’s Colour and Branch Standard at either side of the War Memorial.

Following readings of Last Post was played by Megan Witherspoon and a piper’s Lament was given by Lewis Russell.

At 9.30am precisely there was a one minute silence, which was followed by the Reveille, the Kohima Epitaph and Readings. The Arras WW100 Scotland Prayer was read by the Reverend Nigel Anderson, which was followed by the National Anthem and a Benediction.
