Eagle-eyed shoppers and passers-by might have noticed something rather odd in the sky above Hamilton’s Asda store recently.
Amongst the usual flock of birds seen in the town centre, a few have been suspended from wires on the roof of the supermarket.

But there’s no need to get in a flap – the birds are in fact artificial.
The supermarket giant took the step after a group of seagulls ruffled a few feathers with nearby neighbours by gathering on the roof and causing something of a ruckus.

Asda say they received complaints about the gulls creating a lot of noise at night, and are happy to report the new deterrent appears to have worked.
A spokesperson said: “There were some noisy seagulls on the roof at night that were causing disruption to our neighbours. We’ve installed the fake birds to deter the gulls and now the problem’s gone away!”
