Stewartry Sharks hosted their micro/mini festival as hundreds of youngsters descended on Greenlaw.
Micros
Annan and Ayr both brought strong micro teams to the festival.
Stewartry, who had not trained or played for four weeks, lost heavily to Annan in their first game.
The team then started to play much better and lost narrowly to Ayr and also the rematch with Annan. The players gave their all and are looking forward to training next week.
The positives from this week were a significant improvement in the players supporting the ball carrier and also some nice passing and offloads.
Areas to work on are keeping the defensive line and being aware of the opposition restarting quickly and exploiting a sleepy defence.
Thanks go to the Annan and Ayr coaches for helping with the refereeing.
P4/5
The Sharks were in the same group as Ayr, Dumfries B, Moffat, Wigtownshire and Annan B for the minis tournament and ran out comfortable winners in all their matches except against Moffat.
This is the only team they have yet to beat this season, although they did run them close and were unfortunate not to get a draw following a fine individual try by William Cawthorne being chalked for not completing two passes from kick off.
A great day’s rugby played in glorious sunshine and thanks to all the teams who took part.
P6/7
A full and fit squad assembled at Greenlaw ready for battle and desperate to get stuck in against Wigtownshire, Dumfries, Annan and Moffat.
All the teams know each other very well and the games were played in great spirit.
The first game for the Stewartry lads was the Shire.
A great display of running rugby allowed Stewartry to come out convincing 6-0 winners. Next was old rivals Dumfries B. A hard fought game too-ing and fro-ing left Stewartry lads as eventual winners 1-0. Next was Dumfries A, Stewartry dug deep again and came out on top 2-0.
A tough Moffat team were next, a great game followed back and forward, up and down the pitch.
It ended up a stalemate 1-1. The final game was Annan, Stewartry spread their wings a bit and ran in beautiful tries to win 6-2
The boys had a magnificent tournament unbeaten. They played superbly. The technical ability is there along with enthusiasm and their hearts are huge.
Thanks go to visiting teams Annan, Ayr, Dumfries, Moffat and Wigtownshire, sponsors Karcare, Stewartry Tyres, Benson Services, Grierson Bros and Hewats, the parents who donated and volunteered on the day and also a special mention to Bruce Haggerty, Ally McMorran and club captain Rory Porteous.
