Compassionate Iron Man star Robert Downey Junior told brave Aaron Hunter he was proud to call the schoolboy his friend when he made a special call to him.
The seven-year-old was at home with mum Elisabeth in Alexandria when they received the dream call from his superhero idol.
Courageous Aaron is battling rare ROHHAD syndrome, which causes him a host of complex symptoms including severe breathing difficulties.
And the family have been desperate to track the Hollywood actor down to send a special message of hope to Aaron.
The call gave him a welcome boost as Aaron was in the middle of tests at hospital after his condition deteriorated.
Proud mum Elisabeth said: “Robert was incredible with him. It was amazing to watch it unfold.
“They spoke about lots of things, the films and about Aaron and ROHHAD.
“He was just so good to him. He made him feel like he was the hero.
“He said to Aaron ‘I’m so proud to call you my friend’. He made Aaron feel amazing. It really was magical to watch. Aaron’s face came alive.
“He was just so good with him and Aaron just loved it.
“We came off the phone and Aaron burst out crying but these were happy tears. He was so overwhelmed with what had happened. He gave me the biggest cuddle and said ‘he’s going to help me. He’s my friend’.”
The actor will now take on Aaron’s Go Mad Jump For ROHHAD challenge which attracted the interest of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon last year after Aaron requested Robert took part in the stunt for the other children battling ROHHAD.
Elisabeth continued: “Aaron explained to Robert why he wanted him to do the challenge. He said ‘I don’t want any more of my friends to die’.”
Robert is set to be in Glasgow soon to film a new Avengers movie and Aaron is looking forward to meeting his idol in person.
