Arsene Wenger confirmed with a smile that his Arsenal future will be decided next week after claiming a record 13th FA Cup for the club.

Some fans have spent the season calling for the Frenchman to move on but it appears they will be left disappointed.

As already reported by the Mirror, Wenger is set to sign a new two-year contract.

After today’s victory Wenger, asked about his future, said: “We have a board meeting on Tuesday. And on Wednesday or Thursday it will be clearer.”

The Frenchman than gave a potentially telling grin.

The Gunners have stressed that Wenger’s fate would not be influenced by Saturday’s FA Cup final result.

But victory, with goals from Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey, puts some shine on a disappointing season.

Wenger missing out on the Champions League for the first time at the club has enraged some fans.

The board meet next week and are expected to entrust the Frenchman with leading the club for another two seasons.

Wenger has been rewarded for his loyalty and consistency at the helm of the club over two decades.

The structure of Wenger’s backroom is expected to be altered though.

The new set-up would see a role overseeing contracts, logistics and even pooling together medical information to streamline support for Wenger.

With Wenger staying on this isn’t expected to be a high-profile appointment, and certainly not a director of football – which Wenger has spoken out against.

There could also be some changes in the coaching staff even though Wenger is fiercely loyal to his men.

The confirmation comes at a time with majority shareholder, US tycoon Stan Kroenke, reaffirming his position that he is at the club for the long term and to win trophies after rebuffing a big offer Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov.

The Gunners face a defensive crisis

Missing out on the Champions League for the first time in nearly 20 years will not have the same impact financially as in recent seasons when they were under pressure to pay for the Emirates stadium.

It is believed Arsenal would budget for around a £20m drop from missing out on the Champions League because of lost revenue and prize money which would be offset against not playing the players a top four bonus.
