President Donald Trump is pulling the US out of the world’s first comprehensive deal on climate change, he has announced.
Trump said the US would withdraw from the Paris Agreement, secured in the French capital in December 2015, which commits countries to curbing rising global temperatures.
But he also raised the possibility of negotiating to re-enter the Paris accord or an entirely new deal on terms that were “fair” to the US.

The move drew widespread international criticism, with campaigners in the UK labelling it an “act of vandalism”.
The mayor of Paris, where a landmark global climate agreement was agreed in December 2015, said the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to withdraw from the deal was “a mistake that would have dramatic consequences.”
“That incredible diplomatic achievement could not have been secured without the decisive role of the United States of America. That is why President Trump is committing a mistake with dramatic and fatal consequences,” she said.

Punters on Twitter were quick to express their fury at Trump’s controversial decision, with one person calling him a “demented orange clown.”
Here’s what other social media users had to say about the shock announcement.
