Police rushed to the Forth Road Bridge last night after reports that a person had climbed up one of the towers.
The bridge was closed to traffic in both directions ‘indefinitely’ as officers dealt with the incident
Officers closed the bridge to traffic in both directions at around 10:48pm while Traffic Scotland advised drivers to take an alternative route.
Their website said: “The Forth Road Bridge is closed in both directions due to an ongoing Police incident. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route at this time and allow extra time for their journey.”
The chaos caused a storm on social. On Twitter , Sarah wrote: “Currently stuck in this, someone has climbed up the tower, police on scene been here for an hour. Can traffic be diverted up slip road?”
Natasha Hewson wrote: “Love being stuck on the forth road bridge in traffic when I’m working at 6.30am tomorrow.”
The road has now been reopened after being closed for nearly an hour.
