Hamilton Zoo has named its three-month-previous child chimpanzee ‘Chiku’.
It is a Swahili identify which means “talker” or “one who chatters”, and it was selected after a month-lengthy public naming competitors.
The profitable identify was chosen by Deanna Carter of Te Awamutu, who will get an annual cross to the zoo.
She selected the identify as a result of it was cute and thought it might be an appropriate identify for a chimpanzee.
Chiku is the primary chimpanzee to be born at Hamilton Zoo and brings the quantity within the troop to 6, together with her mom Sanda, father Luka, Lucifer, Lucy and Sally.
