JOHANNESBURG – Police are monitoring elements of northern Durban after protesters blocked streets with stones and burning tyres and torched a minimum of 20 automobiles.
It’s understood protesters are sad about service supply and councillor candidate lists for the upcoming municipal elections in August.
One individual was shot and wounded this morning and is now recovering in hospital.
Police say the state of affairs is calm in the intervening time however they may stay within the space in case protesters determine to regroup.
The police’s Thulani Zwane stated, “The state of affairs is a bit quiet in the mean time however police are monitoring all these areas the place there have been protests. This morning, at round 2am we acquired numerous protest reviews that there was hassle within the northern elements of Durban (sic).”
