CAPE TOWN – South African Native Authorities Affiliation (Salga) says municipalities countrywide are owed about R119 billion.
On the tenth annual Nationwide Municipal Managers’ Discussion board, Salga has pleaded with enterprise and authorities departments to settle their money owed.
Many municipalities discover themselves in monetary hassle, as a result of debtors do not pay their accounts.
Salga has cautioned the non-cost of the debt has a knock-on impact on service supply.
Spokesperson Tahir Sema says municipalities always should remind residents, companies and authorities departments to pay their payments.
“To make sure that municipal payments are paid on time, in order that we will enhance the type of service we presently ship.”
Sema explains this implies providers are hampered and municipality income takes a knock.
