CELTIC were handed one of the toughest Champions League group this evening as they were drawn with Barcelona for the seventh time in Europe.
Scotland’s champions were also pitted against Manchester City and Moenchengladbach in Group C.
It’s a hard task for Brendan Rodgers’ side but it could have been worse. Group F would have been the nightmare draw – with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lisbon and Legia Warsaw in that section.
Peter Lawwell was at the ceremony in Monaco that handed Celtic their first-ever competitive games against Manchester City and Germans Moenchengladbach.
But they’ll come up against an old foe in Barca, with the Hoops facing them for the 12th time in 13 years.
The Group C draw has thrown up intriguing reunions, with City boss Pep Guardiola returning to the Nou Camp, Patrick Roberts facing his parent club at the Etihad and Kolo Toure also facing his old side from the blue half of Manchester.
The Hoops faced Barcelona in July in the International Champions Cup. Rodgers’ men lost 3-1 but will be inspired by their famous Champions League 2-1 win over the Catalan giants in 2013.
