A suspect accused of assaulting a £10million lottery winner claims he was acting in self-defence.
Marshall Baer allegedly attacked John Bowman at the Burns Bar in the town where both men live.
Baer is also accused of assaulting two women – one of them an ex-partner – in the Forfar pub before crashing his car.
John, 59, who scooped £10.3million in April, was allegedly pushed to the ground and repeatedly kicked by Baer in January.
At Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday, lawyer Nick Markowsi said Baer, 61, denied assault, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and careless driving.
Markowsi said of the alleged assault on John: “There is a special defence of self-defence.”
Baer is set to stand trial this month.
