A Hamilton man forced open a locked garage and stole a toolbox.

Paul Swift, of Fereneze Crescent, had originally been charged with also stealing a battery pack and a power washer at the garage at a Hillhouse Road address on December 24, 2015.

However, he pleaded guilty to an amended charge which made no mention of the items.

The 33-year-old also admitted a charge of stealing four packets of cheese from Scotmid in Neilsland Road in Hamilton on February 22 this year while on bail on two separate matters.

His not guilty plea to a charge of stealing 12 jars of coffee from the store was accepted by the Crown.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Marie Smart deferred sentence on Swift for a Drug Treatment and Testing Order assessment, and to consider an unexpired portion of a previous sentence, until March 20.

Bail was granted meantime.
