SABC web sites reportedly hacked by on-line activists

The SABC’s web sites have been down on Sunday afternoon‚ with on-line hacker group Nameless Africa claiming to have hacked the websites and brought them offline in retaliation for the nationwide broadcaster’s determination to censor information protection of protests.

The hacktivist group that launched an enormous cyber assault on the SABC on Sunday afternoon stated it might halt the assault at 4pm however warned that it was not carried out but and that there was “plenty of motion coming”.

“We’ll cease the assaults at SABC (for now) at 4pm. We aren’t accomplished but‚ a lot of motion coming. Issues are going to get wild‚” Nameless Africa‚ which claimed duty for the cyber assault‚ stated on Twitter.

The group stated the assault was in retaliation for the nationwide broadcaster’s determination to censor information protection of protests.

The SABC websites went down at round lunch time on Sunday‚ together with its information website and the SAFM‚ 5FM websites.

The hacktivists stated in on Twitter: “Assaults towards all SABC entities now underway. SA experiencing largest ddost assault. All SABC stations down.”

Nameless Africa had warned concerning the cyber assault in a tweet on Saturday.

“Journalists in case you are bored. Tomorrow at round lunch time the SABC can be on the receiving finish of largest dDos assault to hit SA ever‚” it stated on Twitter.

In the meantime‚ SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago was quoted on Sunday afternoon as saying that the broadcaster was nonetheless wanting into the alleged cyber assault.
